Life Story for Bernice English Duhart

Bernice English Duhart
Bernice English Duhart was born June 27, 1932, in Pinehurst, GA, to Willie C. and Mary Lizzie Horns English, one of two children. Bernice was baptized as a child in Friendship Baptist Church in Findley, GA, where the family worshipped. She attended the public schools in Dooly County, and after she moved to Jacksonville, FL, she completed her high school requirements and proudly earned her G.E.D. In the early 1970’s, Bernice was introduced to her paternal family side of John B. Davis who loved and embraced her and she loved them back.
Bernice moved from Georgia to Jacksonville in the 1950’s, and united with First Corinth Baptist Church under the pastorate of the late Rev. W.L. Jones, and was pastored subsequently by Rev. M. Lockett, Rev. C. Council and Rev. L. Parker. Sister Duhart was placed on District #14 and later, District #6; she participated in Sunday School and sang with the Gospel Choir until her health failed. A savvy entrepreneur, she was the owner/operator of a school bus company that had a contract with the Duval County Schools for many years.
She was a passionate gardener who also loved fishing, cooking family sized meals, traveling and playing cards with family and friends. She looked forward to the Family Reunions every two years.
The call from Heaven came to Sister Bernice English Duhart on Friday, April 21, 2017, and she was released from her earthly tent to life eternal with her Lord and Savior. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. Willie C. English, Mrs. Mary H. English and Mr. John B. Davis; a daughter, Georgia Mae Bryant; siblings, Mary Lee English Sutton and Jimmie Lee English; and a grandson, Anthony C. Ford.
Her legacy will be cherished by her two grandchildren, Sharon Denise Bryant, Jacksonville, FL, and Kevin Vance Bryant, Atlanta, GA, whom she raised and loved deeply; great-grandchildren, Muriel Ford, Jonathan Ford, Tiffany Jackson and Kevin Ford; seven great great-grandchildren; brother, Rev. J. C. Baker (Mary Jean), Vienna, GA; two sisters, Mrs. Ovita Thornton (Willie), Athens, GA, and Mrs. Williene Breedlove Bryant, Cordele, GA; a very loving and devoted nephew, Dr. Johnnie B. Bryant, Jacksonville, FL; a life-long friend, Wallace Anderson, and his eight children (She actually helped raise Frances Adams, Ronald Anderson and Cheryl Anderson with her grandchildren); three sisters-in-law, Mrs. George Eva Spivey, Mrs. Bernice Brown and Mrs. Mary Frankie Parker, all of Philadelphia, PA; a host of special nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, her church family and dear friends, to include John Bradley, who was there to help when Bernice’s health began to decline.
