Life Story for Carrie Marie Mayes Taylor

On June 10, 1925, a fourth child was born to Joseph and Edna Mayes, and they named her Carrie Marie. She was reared in a nurturing environment filled with love of family. While she was yet a toddler, the family moved to Jacksonville, Florida, where they established residence. The Duval County School System provided her
formal education.
St. Paul A.M.E. Church became the family church, where she grew in the Christian life, participating in the youth activities, and later progressing to the adult ministries. She was a member of Class #63, Brother John Matthews, Leader; the Sarah Allen Sunday School Class; the Young at Heart Seniors Ministry; and the James L. Williams, Sr. Lay Organization.
In 1947, Carrie met the young man, Herman Delano Taylor, who was destined to be her life partner. After a two year courtship, they were united in holy matrimony, and this union produced two beautiful daughters, Sherryl and Barbara. Carrie and Herman shared life as one for 65 marvelous years until the Lord called him home.
Sister Taylor was a loving person. She was kind to her neighbors and friends. With a heart for people, she did whatever she could to help, and did it with a smile. We thank God for her example of unselfish and genuine love. She was an angel for the world that she lived in.
Sister Carrie Marie Mayes Taylor’s name was called on Saturday, August 20, 2016. Having completed her mission on earth, she readily answered, discarding her earthly tent and taking flight to her new home in glory. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband on December 11, 2015; her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Joseph Mayes, Sr.; beloved daughter, Sherryl Taylor; and siblings, Jacob, Joseph,Jr., and Geneva Mayes.
Her legacy of love will be treasured by her family: beloved daughter, Barbara Morgan (Cleveland); grandchildren, Ronald L. Morgan, Michael Morgan (Lisa) and Adrian Duncan (Alicia); great grandchild, Adrianna Duncan; sister-in-law, Mrs. Juanita Taylor; a host of nieces and nephews, to include Carolyn Winton, Laverne Cole, Carlene Cole, Michette Cole, Francine Ruffin ( Rodrick) and Rosa Lee Proudme; numerous cousins, other relatives and loving friends.
