Life Story for Dora Emily Sumner Moore
On June 4, 1930, a beautiful baby girl was born to Reverend and Mrs. James N. and Delia Virginia Farmer Sumner in Baxley, Georgia. She was given the name Dora Emily, and was raised along with her siblings in a home of love and care.
The family attended Elizabeth Baptist Church in Dixie Union, GA, where she accepted Christ as her Savior at a young age. Dora was a lifelong member for over 60 years, and as an adult was active in the choir and served as the Church Secretary. Her formal education was received at the Crossroad School.
Dora was wed in Holy Matrimony to Willie Arthur Moore, and they shared life together as one until he passed in 1971. They were the proud parents of four wonderful children, Carolyn, Mary, Wanda and Willie, Jr. A born caregiver, she lovingly cared for her parents until they also passed away.
After moving to Jacksonville in the year 2000, Sister Dora joined St. Thomas Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Ernie Murray, Sr., and was assigned to District #6.
On Tuesday, May 9, 2017, Sister Dora Emily Moore quickly responded to the call of the Almighty, and, having completed her earthly assignment, she entered the Heavenly Gates with joy and gladness.
“Servant of God, well done.” She was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. and Mrs. James N. Sumner; her husband, Willie Arthur Moore; and siblings, James Sumner, Rev. Vernis Sumner, Sr., Barnell Rozier, Annie Blanch Sumner and Gwendolyn Scott.
Memories of this sainted woman of God will be long cherished by her children, Carolyn L. Moore, Mary L. Moore, Wanda Moore-Crawford, and Willie A. Moore, Jr.; grandson, Willie A. Moore, III; siblings, Pastor Freddie Sumner (Bettye), and Frankie L. Webb; brother-in-law, Andrew Scott; sisters-in-law, Marzella Sumner and Geraldine Sumner; godchild/niece, Elder Sheila R. Webb, and godchildren, Minister and Sis. Charles and Margaret Tarver; special friends, Pastors Jimmy and Sandra Green, Bishop and Sis. Joseph W. Williams, and Bishop and Sis. Lucious and Idell Rogers; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and dear friends.
