Obituary for George Mixson Jr.

Named after his father, George Mixson, Jr., was born in Jacksonville, FL, on May 21, 1955, to Mr. and Mrs. George and Frances Thomas Mixson, Sr. As a young lad, he attended Friendly Baptist Church with his family, and was baptized after accepting Christ as his Savior. George was educated in the Duval public school system, graduating from Paxson Senior High School, Class of 1973. A natural athlete, “Babe Bro,” as he was affectionally known, was an avid basketball, baseball and football player.

Immediately following graduation, George enlisted in the U.S. Army, and served 3 years of active duty. He continued his military service from 1976 to 1981 in the Army Reserve, where he was honorably discharged. Upon returning to civil life, he was employed with Pilot Freight for several years as well as with other warehouses in the city.

On Monday, September 7, 2020, the call was made for George to make his earthly exit to life eternal. He was preceded in death by his father, Mr. George Mixson, Sr.

Left to cherish precious memories are his daughter, Tanese Terry; granddaughter, Leticia Huntley; his mother, Mrs. Frances Mixson; sisters, Shirley Foster (Allen) and Jeanette Mobley; brothers, Gerald Mixson (Derrell) and Leonard Mixson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
