Obituary for Godfrey L Jenkins

Godfrey Leo Jenkins was born June 30, 1944 to Paul James Jenkins, Sr. and Claudia Cobb Jenkins in Jacksonville, FL. He was nurtured by his beloved Aunt Inez and Uncle Julian Palmer along with their children.
He met Karen Buggs, the love of his life, in 7th grade, and they remained best friends during high school and college. Upon returning from his tour of military duty, they reunited, began dating, and became united as one on April 5, 1969. A few days ago, they celebrated their 52nd Anniversary.
Godfrey attended the local schools in Duval County, graduating from New Stanton Senior High, class of 1961. He continued his education at Florida A&M University (FAMU) in Tallahassee, FL, where he became a member of the famed Marching 100. Godfrey was drafted in the Army to serve his country in Vietnam. He made the Army his career, subsequently serving in the Army National Guard for 30 years, from which he retired in 1996.
He was active with the JRE Lee FAMU Alumni Chapter in Jacksonville, FL, serving two terms as President. He was also a member of the Marching 100 Alumni Chapter. Godfrey loved FAMU and the Marching 100, and helped recruit many high school students to further their education at his alma mater. A great football fan, he was at every FAMU home and away game that he was able to attend.
Mr. Godfrey Leo Jenkins transitioned from earth to his heavenly home on April 18, 2021. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Claudia Jenkins, Sr., and his uncle and aunt, Julian and Inez Palmer.
