Life Story for Jan Demetri "J. J." Goodman Jr.

Jan Demetri Goodman, Jr., was born on September 7, 1981, in Jacksonville, FL, to Jan and Sandra McCoy Goodman, Sr. He was baptized in 1989 by his father/pastor at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church of Fernandina, FL. His formal education was acquired from the local schools, and he excelled in basketball as a shooting guard and in football as a running back and receiver during his years at Success Academy. Because of his athletic prowess in both sports, he received many awards and trophies.

J.J., as he was affectionately called, inherited a passion for athletics, music and drama from his parents, and pursued careers in the fields of modeling, body building, acting and music. His varied talents and interests led him to create several related businesses during his lifetime. J.J. passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, April 22, 2018, at the age of 36. He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Jaanijha Demetri Goodman.

Left behind to share precious memories of J.J. are his son, Keeylan Keon Washington-Goodman; brothers, Wendell Trapp Goodman and Jamar Goodman; parents, Elder Sandra McCoy and Bishop Jan D. Goodman, Sr. (Vera); grandparents, Frances Williams and Nathaniel McCoy, California; uncles, Rev. Michael McCoy (Debra) and Halquin Goodman; aunts, Dr. Toni Simmons (Scott) and Judge Karen Simmons (John); grand aunts, Mary “Doris” Rentz and Carolyn Bell (Paul); granduncle, R. Leon Gibbs (Beverly); godparents, Deacon and Mrs. William and Vivian R. Cherry; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins (to include Twan Simmons, Chazz Person and Jade Simmons-Sampson), other relatives and friends.
