Obituary for Lillie Mae Solomon Sugar

Lillie Mae Sugar was born to Ceola Anderson and John Henry Solomon on November 18, 1938, in Dawson, Georgia. At a young age, she and her family relocated to Jacksonville, Florida, where she was educated in the Duval County Public School system.

At an early age, Lillie Mae (affectionately known) heard the word of God preached over the radio by Bishop S.C. Johnson, who was the pastor and general overseer of The Church of the Lord Jesus Christ of the Apostolic Faith. She made her way to the Gator Bowl to hear him speak, and was so moved by the Spirit of God that she was baptized that day. She continued to be a faithful member and willing worker until her health failed.

Lillie Mae met a young man named Willie Sugar on February 3, 1956. The couple took a short trip to Kingsland, Georgia, to get married. From this union 10 children were born. She was a wonderful daughter, wife, mother and grandmother.

Lillie Mae was a seamstress and started her own business, Lingerie by Lillie. She was a wonderful cook. She also loved to read, which later inspired her to join a memoirs writing class. She loved this class and wrote many stories.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ceola Solomon; her husband, Willie Sugar, Sr.; and her daughters, LaNae’ Sugar and Brenda Sugar.

Left to cherish her memories are her children, Vernell Davis, Linda Meadows (Mark), Willie Sugar, Jr., John Sugar, Sr. (Touraine), Jerrell Sugar, James Sugar, Jennifer Kitt (Gary), and Elaine Sugar; her grandchildren, Naki Eccleston, Aiku Eccleston, Aisha Eccleston, Walter Sugar, Astreia Sugar, Felicia Meadows, Brandon Sugar, Alaina Sugar, Brandi Sugar, Kameron Sugar, John Sugar, Jr., Chantel Sugar, Jonterius Sugar, India Sugar and Emma Randolph; a host of great-grandchildren and other family members; her goddaughter, Katharin Williams, and godson, Roland Patterson
