Life Story for Mamie Louise Jacobs
Sister Mamie Louise Jacobs was the fourth of seven children born to the union of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas and Bertha Henry Jacobs, in the town of Yulee, Florida. She graduated from Yulee High School. After moving to Jacksonville, Florida, the family united with Mt. Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in 1943 under the pastorate of Rev. B. W. Williams, and Mamie was baptized in 1944. She was active in youth activities and later became a member of Senior Choir #1, where she participated for many years.
Mamie furthered her education at Walker Business College, earning her certification as a CNA. She was employed for over two decades as a housekeeper for Attorney W. Ripley, many years in sales with Vogue Shop, and as a fork lift driver with Mercury Luggage.
She was the family historian, sharing her wealth of knowledge with her loved ones. Sister Jacobs loved fishing, gardening, cooking (specialty - fruit cake cookies) and animals, especially Dotsy, her dog, and Jethro “Jet,” her talking parrot, who both preceded her in death.
At four score and seven (87) years, God called His child to her eternal home, to be free from sickness, pain and sorrow, to a life filled with everlasting peace and joy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Jacobs; children, Charles Bennett, Jr. and Clarence Bennett; grandson, Charles Bennett II; siblings, John L. Jacobs, Rosa Albertie and Essie Frazier; and nephews, Arnold and George.
Her legacy will be cherished by her grandsons, William Dixon and Cedric Bennett; siblings, Wilma Frazier, Lawrence Jacobs and Juanita Bennett (Edgar, Jr.); loving caregiver and companion, Paul Jones, and his children, Thomas Jackson and Cynthia Countryman (Jimmy); six great grandchildren; three great- great
grandchildren; five nieces, Barbara, Christine, Cathy, Marie and Cynthia; 10 nephews, Simon, Alan, Timothy, Chris, Tyrone, Otis, Gerald, Edgar III, Kevin and Mark; devoted cousin, Elder Charles Butler; and a host of great-great nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends, to include Irlene Rouse, Peter
Jones and Robert Jones.
