Life Story for Robbie "Bobbie" Bonner King

Robbie "Bobbie" Bonner King
Mr. and Mrs. Marion and Audie Wilson Bonner became the proud parents of a baby girl on September 25, 1940, in Dublin, Georgia, and named her “Robbie.” The family moved to Jacksonville, Florida, and she was educated in the Duval County public schools, graduating in 1959 from New Stanton Senior High School. While attending New Stanton, she was a member of the Stanto-Musi-Cho. Living in a neighborhood close to the Jefferson Street Park, she had the opportunity to participate on the Jefferson Park Community Swim Team and the Softball Team. She immensely enjoyed sports all of her life.

Bobbie or Barbara, as she was affectionately called by family and friends, received Christ and was baptized as a youth. For a time, she was a member of the Northside Church of Christ. Over 20 years ago, she united with the Springhill Missionary Baptist Church, faithfully serving as an Adult Sunday School teacher and a Youth Bible Study teacher, and as a member of the Usher Ministry, the Kitchen Committee and the Pastoral Care Ministry. She was a willing worker who loved people and enjoyed working with children until her health failed.

In 1971, Robbie was united in holy matrimony to Eugene P. King, and they shared life together as one until he passed away in 1988. She had been a homemaker for many years, and later was employed as a Teacher’s Assistant at Lake Forest Elementary and West Jacksonville Elementary Schools, retiring after 10 years of service. Robbie became an active attendant at the Mary Singleton Senior Center where she participated in the arts and crafts classes, the Ladies of the Millennium, the Rocketts and other social activities. She also was an avid gardener.

At the age of three score and 15 years (75), the earthly assignment was finished, and God welcomed His child home to glory. “Well done, thou good and faithful servant.” She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Eugene P. King; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Marion Bonner; sisters, Rosa L. Walthour and Dorothy Cook; and niece, Edwina Green.

Her legacy will be cherished by her family: devoted sister, Margie Rivers; granddaughter, Sonya Green (Scotty); nieces, Heather Rivers, Desiree Cook, Vinetta Cook, Elwanda G. Briggs (Maurice); nephews, Reginald R. Green (Shannon), Michael Cook and Kevin Cook; stepchildren, Tracy King, Gregory King, and Janice King; sister-in-law, Janice King-Longo; brother-in-law, Joe Walthour; godchildren, Contina Collins, Earline Smith, Craig Kemp (Alethia) and Tamicah Jackson; a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends, to include Hattie Fowler, Mary Jones and Christine Collins; and her church family..
