Jean Marie Demps Mills was born in Fernandina Beach, Florida, on August 8, 1931, to Mrs. And Mrs. James Demps. She was reared in St. Augustine, Florida, in the home of her grandparents, Rev. and Mrs. Moses and Rosa Demps. Her education was acquired in the public schools of St. Augustine.

In 1952, she was wed to the love of her life, Patrick H. Mills, and they shared life as one until his death in 2009. Their union was blessed with four children. Upon moving to the Moncrief area of Jacksonville, they united with the Mt. Bethel Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorate of Rev. S. A. Thomas, Jr., where she served on District #4, the Usher Ministry and the Deaconess Ministry.

Jean was employed by the Duval County School Board from which she retired after 20 years of service. For several years she worked alongside her husband at their franchise operation, Mills Service Station, located on the corner of Moncrief Road and Edgewood Avenue. She was a culinary whiz when it came to preparing meals for family gatherings. Leisure time was spent quietly reading, fishing or shopping,
and she had the opportunity to travel extensively.

Sister Jean Demps Mills’ last act was to hug her daughter and son-in-law as she completed her earthly journey on Tuesday, July 19, 2016, and her soul transcended to the mansion prepared for her by the Master, himself. Her beloved husband, Deacon Patrick H. Mills; parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Demps; and her
grandparents, Rev. and Mrs. Moses Demps, preceded her in death.

Left to share precious memories are her devoted daughters, Stephanie M. Davis (Henry) and Regina M. Hagans (Raynard); loving sons, Patrick H. Mills, Jr. (Mary), Kenneth B. Mills and Eric L. Mills; grandchildren, Eric (Yvette), Nikelle (Bryant), Renee, Jarrett, Patrice (Mahia), Erika (Derrick), Henry, Jessica, Luciana, Kenneth, Nicole, Gary (Veronica), Tanae (Garri), Eric Jr., Lekesha, Robert III, Adrienne, Morgan, and Corbein; 24 great grandchildren; siblings, Martha Lovett, Pearl, Sherita and Carlitha; brothers/sisters-in-law, Rocky Robinson (Anna), Alonzo Robinson (Joyce), Vernon Robinson (Hazel) and Mary Heggs; godchildren, Joann Thomas, Eriterea and E-Shonda Thomas; a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends, to include her beloved best friend, Ruthie Prime.
